WINCHESTER 1894 TAKEDOWN LEVER ACTION RIFLE IN DESIRABLE 38-55. Cal. 38-55. S# 43638. Bbl. 24" octagonal with elevator adjustable semi buckhorn rear sight, German silver blade front sight and full length takedown mag. Nicely figured walnut forearm & straight grip stock with steel forend cap & crescent steel buttplate. Sling eyes have been added. Blued barrel, receiver & mag tube with nitre blued loading gate. Case hardened lever hammer & buttplate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Cody Firearms Research letter stating the following: "Serial number applied on May 24, 1898 / Type: Rifle / Caliber 38/55 / Barrel Type: Octagon / Trigger: plain / Takedown / Received in warehouse on June 15, 1898 / Shipped from warehouse on June 15, 1898 Order number 11163. CONDITION: fine overall, receiver, barrel & mag tube retain 70% original blue with high edge wear & scattered mild freckling. Loading gate retains 80% bright original nitre blue. Lever & hammer retain 50% of their bright original case colors. Buttplate show traces of original case coloring. Stock set very good overall showing modest age wear & some scattered light handling marks. There is a small 1/8" x 1/4" filled repair on left side of stock. Mechanically excellent. Good bore shows light frosting in grooves with strong rifling. A very attractive and high condition antique special order Winchester 1894 and chambered in 38-55 to boot! (01-29165/BH).
